I love food…I really do. I love fast food when it is too hot to even consider getting out of the car; homemade food lovingly made throughout the day and beautifully presented on a table surrounded with great friends; highly anticipated restaurant reservations at hot spots in all my favorite cities; fine dining on special occasions or just because its Tuesday night; barbeques, cookouts, picnics, pizza-themed bocce parties, wine tastings, birthday cake, fundraising dinners with boring hotel food….you name it, I like it! I love the whole experience of eating and dining!
Side note: there was one particularly bad meal in Paris on a very special New Year’s trip with my husband and best friends that will go down in history as one of the most disgusting meals of my life. Thank goodness, it was one of “those” restaurants where the ladies’ menus didn’t show the prices of the food, so I didn’t have to think about the cost that I was literally hiding into my beautifully-pressed, linen napkin. (Yes, Mother, I did that.) Our special code word for that meal is: poo-tart. And, that’s all I’m going to say.
But, back to the food I love….There are too many restaurants to list, too many favorite and memorable dishes, too many special dining memories with friends (although ALL of those would make a great blog topic in the future!) Today, though, I’m going to share one of the greatest secrets of my life…my go-to, all-I-want-is-some-easy-comfort-food, this reminds me of my childhood meal. It might be one of the most genius creations that my father ever passed along to me. With that said, though, some of you might be repulsed.
It is a very simple sandwich with ingredients you already have at home: a peanut butter sandwich with French’s yellow mustard. Not Dijon mustard. The regular yellow stuff that you put on burgers and hot dogs, hot off the grill. It’s one of the perfect bites …pea-nutty (is that a word?) and tangy and a hint of sweet all at the same time. It is best on white bread, but wheat will do in a pinch. And, the perfect beverage to accompany such an amazing sandwich? Coca-Cola, of course, over ice with a straw. Not Coke Zero, not Diet Coke. Regular, fully-leaded Coca-Cola.
What is life without a little bit of adventure? Put on your adventurous spirit and try one bite. Didn’t your mom used to always say, “Try one bite before you say you don’t like it.”
And, because I am so confident that at least ONE of you reading my blog is going to like the peanut butter and mustard sandwich (not YOU, Dad!), that I am willing to take on YOUR secret food love. Send it to me….I promise to try one bite.
And that makes me smile.
... tried it ... loked it ... YUM !!
